Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Engineer (Full-Time, Permanent)

CORE Engineering inc., located in St. John’s, NL, is actively seeking a motivated and experienced professional mechanical engineer to be part of our team. We focus on providing quality and sound design solutions to a wide range of clients with the CORE focus being mechanical and electrical design for commercial, health care, and educational buildings. Our firm is independently owned and operated having roots in consulting that originated over 30 years ago and we have built a strong reputation in the industry which we hope to further strengthen.

 

From complex renovation design projects to new designs, the breadth of the projects you will be involved in will be highly varied. You will be responsible for all aspects of mechanical design from concept to detailed design and on site contract administration. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, ability to work under deadlines, be highly productive and share the passion for what we do for our clients.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design for Heating and Cooling systems,
  • Design of Geothermal systems,
  • Design of Refrigeration systems,
  • Design of Ventilation systems,
  • Design of Plumbing, Medical Gas and Fire Protection Systems,
  • Design of HVAC Controls,
  • Completion of Energy Modelling using Carrier HAP software or other appropriate software,
  • Completion of assessment reports,
  • Complete cost estimates,
  • Complete cost effective design solutions and value engineering,
  • Complete design to LEED requirements,
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications,
  • Complete contract administration incl. site reviews, site reports, shop drawing reviews,
  • Interface with other disciplines for detailed coordination and reviews,
  • Interface with contactors in design build arrangements,
  • Interface with clients to build strong working relationships and trust.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of recognized university with Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree,
  • Minimum 10+ years experience in a buildings HVAC design role with a Canadian Consulting firm,
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the province of NL (or ability to register),
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize workloads to work effectively under pressure with tight deadlines,
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment that is highly client focused,
  • Ability to travel within the province and Atlantic Canada,
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills,
  • Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office,
  • Experience with Carrier HAP Energy Analysis software,
  • Project management skills,
  • Experience with proposal writing and RFP responses,
  • Strong work ethic and sound judgement skills,
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills,
  • An inherent focus on quality and performance with a proven design track record,
  • Working knowledge of NFPA standards, CSA standards, Building Code, Plumbing Code and ASHRAE standards.
